About Us

Broadway Dance Co. was created for the dancer who loves to dance and wants to grow technically in his or her art form. Our goal at BDC is to provide students, from beginners to advanced, with the classes they deserve and continue to stand as a leader in dance training in the Lake Orion area

 

Broadway Dance Co. offers dancers a full schedule of weekly classes, guest choreographers, and auditioning opportunities. All of our offerings embrace ballet, the foundation of dance, and incorporate our Broadway Dance Co. commitment to excellence.

Our Studio has a competition team that feels like family with a community of parents who support their dancer in our nurturing and fun environment.  Our friendly, college-educated, professional instructors will inspire a student to reach his or her potential and not give up on him or her.

Broadway Dance Staff 2019/2020

     MICHELLE LARNARD - OWNER/ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Michelle brings years of experience as a professional dance instructor, choreographer and performer to her role as Owner/Artistic Director. She is trained in tap, ballet, pointe, lyrical, contemporary, and jazz.

Michelle is a graduate of MSU with a BA degree in Psychology and Dance. She was a member of the MSU Repertory Dance Company, a teacher for the MSU Orechsis program, and a director and choreographer for the MSU student dance productions. Her choreography combines an artistic talent and visionary movement that makes her pieces dynamic. Her passion and dedication to each students personal dance success makes her an exceptional teacher and award-winning choreographer.

Michelle is a life long dance student, she continues to add to her dance expertise by training with the top choreographers and teachers throughout the United States. Michelle is also an RYT 200 hour certified yoga instructor.

 
     KATIE CALDWELL - COMPETITION/RECREATIONAL TEACHER
Katie Caldwell

Katie is a graduate of Point Park University, PA. Katie graduated with a BA degree in advertising and Dance.  She is a certified Acrobatic Arts Instructor.  Through this certification she teaches our students excerises to increase strength, flexibility and endurance.  She also has the required skills to safely spot tumbling and group stunts.  

Katie has been trained in all styles of dance as well as acrobatics. She has performed with professional Pittsburgh dance companies and has judged dance competitions.  She has won many awards for her outstanding choroegraphy including top overall, judges choice and FDC finailist.  

  
     REBECCA CRIMMINS - COMPETITION/RECREATIONAL TEACHER
Rebecca Crimmins

Dancer, Educator, Adjudicator, Director, Choreographer, Television Host, CEO, Rebecca Crimmins has held all those positions in the performing arts industry with stunning success. Teaching and choreographing for Oakland University’s Dance Department for ten consecutive years, Ms. Crimmins is excited to be choreographing and teaching for Broadway Dance Company Co. Her extensive background in tap, having studied with great tap masters such as Lady Di Walker, Lane Alexander, Loyd Storey, Robert Reed, Barbara Duffy, Jason Samuals and more, has inspired Ms. Crimmins to continue sharing the tradition of this great American dance idiom with her students.

 
   LAURA STANDLICK-COMPETITION/RECREATIONAL DANCE INSTRUCTOR

Laura has had over twenty years of training and experience at some of the most prestigious dance programs in North America, including Royal Winnipeg School of Ballet and Broadway Dance Center.  These, along with her studies as a dance major at Western Michigan University have helped her achieve a well-rounded education in dance.  Laura received multiple scholarships from Broadway Dance Center, the Edge Performing Arts in California, two Urban Jam scholarships, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp summer scholarship, and a yearly convention scholarship for West Coast Dance Explosion.

Professionally, Laura danced on stage with Boyz 2 Men, performed in Gus Giordano’s “Sing, Sing, Sing”, danced on the WNBA Detroit Shock dance team and for Celebrity Cruise Line as a dance captain for the entire cast. Locally she has danced at the Motor City Casino, MGM, and Caesars Casino in Windsor. She currently is a regional and national judge for KAR and Rainbow Dance Competition going on six years.

 

 
     ELIZABETH KAARLELA-COMPETITION/RECREATIONAL DANCE INSTRUCTOR
 

Lizz has over 30 years of dance experience and 16 years of teaching experience. She received her early training beginning at age 4, in the Russian style of Ballet under the direction of Phyliss Pickett, who danced professionally with a ballet company in New York. She began tap, jazz and lyrical at age 9. She started studying Chechetti at age 12 and passed her 1-4 exams with high honors. 

Her performance experience includes many annual recitals and performances of The Nutcracker Ballet. She began teaching and choreographing her own works at age 17 and began teaching and choreographing competitive dancing at age 22. She is certified to teach through Dance Masters of Michigan and America and devotes herself to continuing and furthering her education in a pursuit to become a more well rounded dance teacher. She is married with two daughters and a sassy pug and on her down time she enjoys nature and walks with her family. This will be her first year a Broadway Dance Company and she is looking forward to getting to know everyone.   Welcome Ms Lizz!

 

 
     TAMRA ODROBINA-RECREATIONAL INSTRUCTOR

Tamra Lusch-Odrobina is the owner of Kinderdance of Michigan. Tamra  been dancing since the age of 4 and continued the passion of dance through keeping up with the latest training, such as certification for Xtend Barre, Zumba, Zumba Kids, Zumba Jr and even have a degree in Early Childhood Development and Business Management. She has been a leader and educator in the field of Child Care, for the past twenty-eight years, and has taught at local studios for the past 15 years.

Tamra is married and the mother of two beautiful children, a fifteen-year-old daughter, and a thirteen-year-old son.  What brought me to Broadway Dance Co is “my love & passion of both, children and the art of dance”.    We are excited for her 1st year with BDC.  She will be introducing our first Mommy & Me class.  A parent participation class for 15 month-2 years.  Welcome Ms. Tamra!

 
     BETH PERRY-RECREATIONAL INSTRUCTOR

Beth has been teaching ballet to students of all ages for almost twenty years and is certified in the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum for levels pre-primary through three. She earned her MA in American Dance Studies from Florida State University and her BA in History with a Specialization in Dance from Michigan State University. After receiving her Masters, she taught ballet history for four years at the American Ballet Theatre's summer intensive in Detroit and danced with stb dance in Men Dance Michigan. She also worked for five years as the operations manager with the arts education organization, Living Arts. While at FSU, Ms. Perry danced in Days of Dance, Awaken and Shift an MFA Concert, represented FSU at the American College Dance Festival, and extensively researched Alwin Nikolais, the subject of her thesis. She also had the fabulous opportunity to study with Suzanne Farrell, Jowale Willa Jo Zolar, Dan Wagoner, Sheila Humphreys, Lynda Davis, and Geri Houlihan at FSU. Ms. Perry performed for two years with MoreDances Contemporary Dance Company based in Troy, Michigan and also in Bravo, Bravo! an annual fundraiser for the Detroit Opera House. While at MSU she performed with the Dance Repertory Company, Orchesis, and in the MSU School of Music’s production of Orpheus and The Underworld. She was also on the executive board for Orchesis, the student dance group. Ms. Perry is mom to two wonderful children who do their best to keep her on her toes.
